Changing nameservers without losing track
Changing nameservers hands DNS management to another service. Preparation helps protect your website and email.
Read guide ↗A provider change needs preparation. Domain registration, DNS and web hosting are separate services.
A domain transfer moves domain management, not your website or emails. Keep access and DNS values safe and check the extension’s rules. Transfers to atdomain.at are not currently open for ordering.
A standard domain transfer moves domain management to a new provider. Changing the holder is a separate operation. Check the current holder details and reachable email address. Keep access to the previous provider until the transfer is completed and confirmed.
Many extensions use an authorisation code to approve a transfer. Additional conditions, locks or confirmations vary by extension. Request the code from the previous provider and keep it private. Transfer duration and any change to the expiry date depend on the registry and extension.
A domain transfer does not move website files or mailboxes. If your previous contract bundles services, check which ones you still need before cancelling. Existing DNS can remain with unchanged nameservers as long as the DNS provider continues operating the zone.
The transfer section is prepared. Transfers will become orderable after pricing, extension rules and the registration flow have been checked. Until then, the transfer page is a guide and accepts no binding transfer order. New .at registrations use the separately published registration price.
