.at domain registered: your checklist for the next steps

Read guide ↗Your name is settled but the website is not ready? Plan early .at registration, domain costs, account access, email and the later connection.
You can register your .at domain before you have a finished website. Domain charges still start with registration. Set up the website, HTTPS and email as separate services. Focus on confirmed registration, a reachable customer account and a clear plan for connecting the address later.

A new website can take weeks: the copy is unfinished, images are being prepared and the visual concept is still under discussion. Your domain decision does not have to wait for the final design. However, distinguish a settled project name from a list of early ideas. Write the complete address down and ask someone else to read it aloud. Will it still fit if individual products change? Is the spelling clear? Check possible third-party rights separately; an available domain does not settle that question. If the project name changes every week, narrow the shortlist before placing multiple precautionary orders.
Check the domain name before orderingSeparate availability from trade mark researchSearch reports current availability. A result and an item in your basket do not reserve the name. Before paying, review the complete spelling, including the extension; afterwards, check the confirmed registration status in your account. Treat a pending process as pending. For example, do not approve printed business cards solely on the strength of a payment confirmation. Record the address that was actually registered in your project notes so the website, printed materials and future email addresses all use the same spelling. If an order is unclear, contact us through a support ticket in your account.
Register a domain before the website is readyFor a small Austrian studio, the plan might be to register the domain after agreeing the name, publish the website after approving the copy, and set up email when the selected mail service is ready. This is a planning example rather than a technical waiting period. All three tasks can also happen on the same day. The important point is that nobody interprets registration as a finished website. Write down who is preparing the site, who will supply the connection values and when you intend to run the first complete check. That makes unfinished tasks visible without holding up the domain decision.

Domain charges start with registration, even if no website is displayed yet. At atdomain.at, a standard new .at domain currently costs €12.99 total price for the first year; renewal costs €15.99 total price per additional year. Launching the website three months later does not move the domain period. New standard .at domains also offer a three-year package for €39.00 total price, including registration and two annual renewals. Compared with €44.97 through annual payments, that saves €5.97 assuming today’s prices remain unchanged. The package does not apply to transfers or renewals of existing domains. Choose the term for your actual project rather than treating the website launch as the start of billing.
Compare annual prices and the three-year packageSearch for your preferred .at domainThere is no need to enter arbitrary DNS values simply to make something appear in a browser. A domain without a configured web service does not display a finished website. A coming-soon page also needs a suitable service; registration does not create it. atdomain.at does not currently sell hosting or email mailboxes. If you want to show a page before the full launch, ask your selected website service whether it supports a custom domain and valid HTTPS. Follow its specific connection instructions. Do not copy an example IP address from an unrelated guide or accidentally direct visitors to another project.
Once you select the website service, obtain the required DNS records or nameservers. With our default nameservers, you manage DNS in your customer account; custom nameservers are supported too. Before switching, check whether email or other services have already been configured in the meantime. Their records still need to be accounted for. A website launch is not a reason to remove existing mail settings. An address using your domain needs a configured mail service and mailboxes. Registration alone does not create an inbox that can receive messages. Later, test the website and email separately rather than inferring working messages from a successful browser view.
Understand DNS values for the website and emailDistinguish a domain from valid HTTPS
Use an email address you can already receive messages at for your customer account. A planned mailbox under the new domain is suitable only once it actually works. After ordering, check confirmations and notices in your account and inbox. If additional domain email verification is shown, follow its specific instructions and deadline. A website draft does not replace that task. With the three-year package, the prepaid-through date identifies the covered period; the technical expiry advances through the included annual renewals. After the package ends, arrange renewal in good time at the price then offered. There is no automatic card charge.
Plan the term and later renewalBefore publishing the address on printed materials or profiles, open the exact address using valid HTTPS. Check the main hostname, any www version you use, important pages and a contact form. For email, test receiving and sending separately. Keep the connection instructions, confirmed domain and next review date together. You do not need a large project manual: a short list of responsibilities, status and dates is enough. If the website is the only unfinished part, you do not need to order the domain again. Connect the already registered address when the project is ready, then repeat the checks using the public address rather than relying only on a design preview.
